Betsy Boone is a professor of the History of Art, Design, and Visual Culture who studies nineteenth and early twentieth-century art in the United States, Spain, and Latin America. She is the author of Vistas de España: American Views of Art and Life in Spain, 1860-1914 (Yale University Press, 2007) and "The Spanish Element in Our Nationality": Spain, America, and the World's Fairs and Centennial Celebrations, 1876-1915 (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2020), in addition to numerous articles on art, photography, and print culture in western Europe and the Americas. She loves animals, especially cats and horses, and is an avid equestrian.

HADVC 205 - History of Art, Design, and Visual Culture in 19th Century Europe
History of art, design, and visual culture in Europe during the 19th century, focusing on work produced during this socially and politically turbulent time. Includes discussion of Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, and Symbolism.
HADVC 311 - Issues in the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture
Students are expected to have successfully completed two 200-level HADVC courses with a minimum grade of B-. Prerequisite: consent of Department. Variable content course which may be repeated if topic(s) vary.
