Working for the Department of Biochemistry

Our research labs, headed by 25 faculty members with primary appointments in the Department of Biochemistry and 8 adjunct professors with primary appointments in other departments, pursue scientific discovery in a number of areas, including cancer, infectious disease, and cardiovascular disease.

The Di Trani group is a recent addition to this department. In this group, we use cryogenic electron microscopy, kinetic analysis, and various biochemical techniques to study protein structure and function. Our primary focus is on electron transport chain complexes and other macromolecules involved in bioenergetic processes

Position Summary

The Di Trani group is hiring a laboratory coordinator who will be responsible for management and administration of this laboratory under the direction of the principal investigator. This includes purchasing lab supplies, monitoring and maintaining equipment and inventories, performing and analyzing experiments, and training new students. Additionally, they will develop update and maintain SOPs and ensure compliance with health and safety.  

Duties

  • Work with the Principle Investigator in designing and conducting both routine and new experimental procedures 
  • Preliminary analysis and validation of research data
  • Troubleshoot experimental protocols with PI and trainees
  • Train new summer students, undergraduate trainees, and research fellows
  • Contribute to daily lab operations including lab supply orders, maintaining biological and chemical inventories and equipment, general lab clean-up and waste management, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Development of SOPs for equipment maintenance and laboratory procedures

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree is required in biochemistry or related subject  
  • Masters of Science degree is preferred due to additional hands-on experience this provides
  • Greater than 6 months experience in a research environment
  • Experience with Protein Purification, Cell Culture, Molecular Biology, PCR, SDS PAGE, and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
