Personal Statement:
My area of interest is Type 1 diabetes and islet transplantation, particularly in developing better tools for monitoring beta cell function. 

Dr. Lam completed endocrinology training and a fellowship in clinical islet transplantation, followed by a master’s degree in science, all at the University of Alberta. She was appointed assistant clinical professor in 2018.

Leadership and Collaborations: 
Dr. Lam is working with international partners to develop the BETA-2 tool for assessing pancreatic beta cell function into a new and simpler test that will determine whether new treatments for Type 1 diabetes should be approved.



Clinical Interests

Dr. Lam is an endocrinologist specializing in the assessment of beta cell function in patients with Type 1 diabetes. She sees patients at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.


Research

Dr. Lam’s research interests include clinical assessment of beta cell function in islet transplant patients and new onset Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Lam has co-authored several publications in such journals as American Journal of Transplantation, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Clinical Nephrology and Diabetes.
