About

Blair Attard-Frost is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and a Fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). She completed her PhD, Master of Information (MI), and Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) at University of Toronto. 

Blair's research applies a trans feminist lens to address challenges of power, participation, and justice in the governance of artificial intelligence. Her research appears in academic journals such as Big Data & Society, First Monday, Government Information Quarterly, AI and Ethics, Service Science, and International Journal of Information Management. Blair mobilizes insights from her research to educate students, professionals, executives, public servants, communities, and the general public about AI policy & ethics. Her public scholarship appears in Canadian and international outlets such as The Globe and Mail, CBC News, and Tech Policy Press. Blair also creates experimental sci-fi and glitch art that explores frictions between gender, technology, and regulation. Her experimental web game object.type(3) was recently featured at Expanded Data, a conference of AI researchers and media artists hosted by McMaster University's Critical Data Studio.
