Power Electronics Power Systems Modular Multilevel Converter Technologies

About

Anjana Wijesekera is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the ELITE Grid Research Lab at the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in power electronics and energy systems.

His research focuses on advanced power converter topologies, modular multilevel converters, and dynamic modeling of power electronic systems. His doctoral work introduced a novel modular multilevel AC/AC converter with reduced power processing, supported by analytical modeling, dynamic phasor formulations, and experimental validation.

As a postdoctoral fellow, Anjana is currently working on system level modeling and optimization of hybrid microgrids for remote and infrastructure constrained sites, with an emphasis on reliability, resilience, and lifecycle cost assessment.
