Social Entrepreneurship Informal Entrepreneurship Institutional Theory Economic Geography Mixed Methods

Research

My research advances our understanding of entrepreneurship as a tool to address societal problems. Conceptually, I build on theories in economic geography (e.g., location choice) and organizational institutionalism (e.g., institutional translation). Empirically, I draw on spatial datasets (e.g., geo-coded micro-census, NASA night-time brightness) and methods (e.g., hotspot analysis) to identify organizational and venture patterns, which I investigate qualitatively or quantitatively to explain underlying mechanisms and outcomes. By developing such innovative mixed-methods empirics, I contribute methodologically to organization theory’s growing interest in space and place.
