About
Dr. Brian Buchanan is currently appointed as Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Buchanan graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc (hon) in Human Physiology in 2006 and MD in 2010. He went on to complete training in Internal Medicine (Dalhousie University, 2014) and Critical Care Medicine (McMaster University, 2016). Additionally, Brian has completed concurrent fellowship training in critical care ultrasound (Western University, 2016) and a Master’s in Medical Education (Dundee University, 2021) with a focus on critical care ultrasound education. He practices as a general systems intensivist at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and as a flight physician with Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS). Brian is the Director of AlbertaSono, a critical care ultrasound training program, and directs a critical care ultrasound fellowship. His clinical and research interests include medical education, critical care ultrasound, simulation, and procedural training.
