About

Dr. Cheryl Laratta is currently appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.  Cheryl Laratta is a respirologist, sleep subspecialist. She completed her MD at the University of British Columbia, General Internal Medicine residency and Respiratory Medicine subspecialty training at the University of Alberta, followed by fellowship training in Sleep Disorder Medicine at the University of British Columbia. After completion of a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Alberta in 2024, she has been developing a research program in the epidemiology of sleep-related breathing disorders in patients with COPD and implementation research for non-invasive ventilation for restrictive and obstructive lung diseases.  She has active involvement in the Canadian Home Mechanical Ventilation Research Network and is the site lead for the University of Alberta in the 3TLA study. She has policy and leadership experience as the Medical Director for the University of Alberta Hospital Sleep Disorders Laboratory and the Department of Medicine Sleep Clinics. Within the Canadian Thoracic Society, she is a past member of the Sleep Disordered Breathing Steering Committee as the Early Career Member.
