About

Dr Daniel Kim is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta and member of the Division of Cardiology at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute where he is an Interventional & Heart Transplant Cardiologist. He is the Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure & Transplantation and Adult Cardiac Assist Devices Programs. 

After graduating from the University of Calgary Medical School, Dr Kim went on to train in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at the University of Alberta. He then completed a Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplantation at the Stanford University Medical Center, in California. Since accepting an academic position at the University of Alberta in 2003, he has engaged in a busy academic clinical practice with clinical interests in Acute Care, Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplantation, Mechanical Circulatory Support, as well as advanced cardiac procedures such as coronary interventions, invasive intracoronary imaging, coronary physiologic assessment and ECMO. 

He is a recognized educator, having received numerous teaching awards for Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Peer Teaching. His current research focuses on novel detection methods for acute and chronic rejection, translational mechanisms in cardiac decompensation and cardiorenal physiology in heart failure. He is involved with numerous national and international organizations, including being on the executive of the ISHLT's Heart Failure/Transplant Council as the Education Workforce Leader.
