Academic Overview

• I am a professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  I obtained a BSc (1989), MD (1993), FRCPC in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine (2000). My academic interests have included medical education and frailty.

Research

• My primary career interest has been in the measurement of frailty.  I developed and validated the Edmonton Frail Scale (published in 2006), and have participated in the implementation of frailty criteria in clinical settings since that time.

Teaching

• In medical education, I have distinguished myself for bedside and classroom teaching excellence, having received both undergraduate and residency level awards.  I also served as the program director in Internal Medicine and Assistant Chair, Postgraduate Medical Education for a period of ten years (2008 to 2017).
