About
Dinesh Witharana is a family physician focused on meeting the primary care needs of people diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. He is honored to be able to support families throughout their journey.
As a Clinical Assistant Professor in Family Medicine at the University of Alberta and Calgary, Dinesh enjoys bringing students and residents with him to hospice rounds and home visits. He also enjoys participating on the Alberta College of Family Physicians Board of Directors, The Provincial Palliative Tumour Group as an Executive Member, the AMA Section of Palliative Care Fee Committee, and the Core Committee for the Cancer Strategic Clinical Network. He currently also serves as the suburban family physician representative on the Edmonton Zone PCN Sub-Committee responsible for improving transitions of care. He was also awarded the Alberta College of Family Physicians 2018 Outstanding New Professional Award.
He lives in Spruce Grove with his two amazing children, ages 3 and 6, and his extraordinary wife. He enjoys making people laugh and often accomplishes that by playing hockey. Dinesh is committed to provide compassionate family centred care to enhance the quality and dignity of life for those diagnosed with a progressive, life-threatening illness. He believes that Pilgrims Hospice Society will expand its service to provide excellent, respectful palliative care to many Albertans regardless of where they are in their journey.
