Overview

About

Dr David Waldner completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Calgary in 2014. He completed training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the University if Alberta in 2017 and 2019, respectively. In 2021, he completed a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality (MScHQ) at Queen's University. 

Dr Waldner's clinical and academic interests include tropical medicine and parasitic infections. In 2019, he completed the Gorgas Diploma Course in Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru achieving a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H). He has served as a visiting infectious diseases teaching clinician and lecturer at Makerere University and Kiruddu General Hospital in Kampala, Uganda.

Courses

SPH 697 - Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases

This course provides a broad introduction to the knowledge needed to investigate and control infectious diseases. It covers the description, causes and modeling of epidemic and endemic infections, as well as intervention and prevention strategies. Selected infectious diseases are used as case studies. These provide understanding of the natural history, evolution, investigation, methods of control, and the costs and benefits of interventions in a legal and ethical policy context. Prerequisites: SPH 596, or equivalent, or permission of Instructor.
