About

Dr Fabiana Almeida is an Assistant Professor at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. She completed her dental training and OMR specialty training in Brazil. She also completed a MSc (2010) and PhD (2016) in Health Sciences- Oral Diagnosis. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta (2017-2019) her projects involved Ultrasound and new technologies applied to TMJ and periodontium.

Currently, Dr Almeida teaches Oral Radiology to DDS and DH undergraduate students and the Advanced Oral Radiology course to graduate students of the clinical programs. She is serving as the Discipline Lead of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Director of the DDS 525 (Diagnosing and managing Oral Diseases) multidisciplinary course and the Director of the UG Research Initiative Program, School of Dentistry. Her research interests involve Advanced Imaging modalities (Ultrasound, MRI and CBCT) applied to diagnosis in Dentistry, TMJ imaging and Artificial Intelligence tools applied to diagnostic imaging. More specifically, she works on Temporomandibular disorders diagnosis through images (CBCT, MRI, US)
