About

I joined the Sociology department in 1983 and retired in 2020. I served as Director of the Population Research Laboratory for 6 years (1987-1993), as Sociology Chair for 8 years (2006 till 2014), as Associate Dean of Arts (Research) for 3 years (1999-2002) and as Acting Dean of Arts for six months in 2002. My primary teaching areas were in the sociology of work, statistics, research methods, and introductory sociology. My research has focused primarily on life course transitions, social inequality, labour market changes, immigration, and environmental and political attitudes, although other topics have captured my attention as well.

Research
