About

Personal Statement:

One of my main interests is the intersection of technology and medicine, in particular how use of information within electronic medical records can improve patient care. In my role as Associate Dean, Health Informatics for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD), I assist the Faculty in navigating issues related to health privacy and have a goal of improving competency in the use of medical information for patient care.  I continue to have a busy outpatient practice in general endocrinology.

Jacques Romney has a B.Sc. in biochemistry and an M.Sc. in medical biochemistry, both from the University of Calgary. He completed his medical degree and subsequently trained in internal medicine and endocrinology at the University of Alberta. He started as staff physician at the University of Alberta Hospital in 2001.

Leadership and Collaborations:

Dr. Romney has served on numerous institutional and provincial committees focused on disease management, medical informatics and electronic medical records. Currently, he is the FoMD’s Associate Dean, Health Informatics and served as chair of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s Medical Informatics Committee. He is on the executive of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Section of the Alberta Medical Association. He is a member of the Planning Committee for the Department of Medicine Annual Update in Adult Medicine, and the Division of Endocrinology annual Endocrine Day.
