Overview

About

Dr. Jenny Souster obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (2000) and her Medical Degree (2004) from the University of Calgary. She then became the first woman to complete the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the University of Alberta, the program she now serves as the Assistant Program Director and Competency Committee Chair.   Following residency, she completed a subspecialty fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She returned to Edmonton in 2012 as the first female Neurosurgeon at this institution.  While working within the Division of Neurosurgery, she completed a Master’s Degree in Education.

Dr. Souster is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta.  Her primary practice is pediatric neurosurgery at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.  Her practice interests span all of pediatric neurosurgery, including pediatric neuro-oncology, congenital malformations, comprehensive neuro-endoscopy, Chiari malformation, craniofacial surgery and hydrocephalus.  She also maintains an adult neurosurgical practice, specializing primarily in pituitary surgery, adult hydrocephalus and general neurosurgery. 

Her research interests include gender equality in neurosurgery, complex PTSD in neurosurgical patients and screening for dark personalities within surgical training programs.
