About
Academic Overview:
Dr. Kannayiram Alagiakrishnan is a specialist in Geriatric and Internal Medicine. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta and working as a Geriatrician at the University of Alberta Hospital. He is the site service chief at the University of Alberta Hospital.
Dr. Alagiakrishnan received his medical degree from Madurai Medical College, India in 1984. Subsequently he completed his Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, and a Master of Public Health degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Alberta.

Research
Dr. Alagiakrishnan’s research interests are in dementia, delirium, geriatric cardiology and chronic disease management in the elderly. He has presented at national and international conferences, published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and six chapters, and served as a reviewer for medical journals. He has published a book about Hypotensive Syndromes in Geriatric Patients.
Teaching
Dr. Alagiakrishnan’s clinical teaching covers undergraduate and post-graduate students. Teaching includes basic clinical as well as geriatric medicine skills.
