About

Dr. Kathryn Dong is the Social Accountability Lead for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and the Alberta Health Services Chair in Emergency Medicine Research. Dr. Dong completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Alberta in 2004 and then went on to complete additional certification in addiction medicine. She also completed a Masters in Population Health which examined the morbidity and mortality associated with opioid toxicity in Edmonton. Her clinical work is as an inpatient addiction medicine physician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.


Research

Dr. Dong is an Associate Scientific Director of the Inner City Health and Wellness Program. Her research focuses on improving health care access and outcomes for people who use substances accessing care in emergency department and hospital settings.


Teaching

Dr. Dong provides bedside and didactic clinical teaching. She is currently the Chair of the Addiction Medicine Area of Focused Competence Committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
