About
Dr. Ken Harris is a Senior Research Officer with the National Research Council Canada – Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre (NRC-QN) and an Adjunct Professor within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. He conducts a diverse range of research projects, primarily on the development of nanostructured materials for device applications.
Dr. Harris is currently focused on high surface area, shape-engineered electrodes. These materials are formed with the glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique and applied to electrochemical applications, most notably biosensors, batteries and electrolyzers. In the past, his work has also included actuators based on liquid crystal polymers, nanopatterned surfaces by block copolymer lithography, and materials/fabrication techniques for solar cells.
Within these areas, Dr. Harris has published ~80 peer reviewed journal papers, reaching >5000 citations and an H-index of 41. He has supervised both graduate (Ph.D. and M.Sc.) and undergraduate students, incorporating these students into most of his research teams.
