About

As a clinical radiation oncologist, Tankel has a mandate for provision of clinical services, teaching, administration and research.

Clinical Interests
Tankel's practice includes the oncological management of patients with Breast Cancer, Tumours of the Gastro-Intestinal Tract.  Patients are treated in a multidisciplinary environment with every effort made to improve both life expectancy and quality of life.  He currently serves as the Chair of the CCI, Gastrointestinal Tumor Group.

Research

Tankel is actively involved in entering patients into co-operative international, national and local clinical trials, including the Radiation Therapy and Oncology Group (RTOG) and the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC).   Tankel is the Primary Investigator at the CCI of a trial evaluating the use of a novel agent in increasing tumour oxygenation during radiotherapy in breast cancer patients with brain metastases.  The team at the CCI have been leaders in accrual to this trial in North America.

Teaching

As Clinical Professor of Oncology, Tankel is involved on a daily basis, in the teaching and supervision of residents, medical students and allied medical trainees.
