Scholarly Activities
Research - COOPERATIVE TRUCK PLATOONING SYSTEM (CTPS)
Our team at UAlberta, in partnership with multiple institutions, conducted Canada’s first-of-its-kind Cooperative Truck Platooning System (CTPS) trial on Alberta Highway 2 between Calgary and Edmonton during the winter season in 2022, where the ambient temperatures ranged from -27°C to 12°C. This CTPS trial included 41 incident-free commercial trips, covering a total distance of 22,855 km. This study provides real-world data to identify limitations and needed areas for improvement in adapting cooperative truck platooning technology to commercial operations on public roads.
