About

Joanna MacLean is an Associate Professor and Clinician-Scientist in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. She completed her undergraduate and medical training at McMaster University, her Paediatric Residency and Paediatric Respiratory Medicine Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto, and her PhD at the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. She is currently a Paediatric Respirologist, Sleep Medicine Specialist, and the Medical Director for the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, AB, Canada. Both her clinical practice and research focuses on understanding breathing and sleep problems in children. She is an author on more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, a member of the provincial Sleep Disorders Working Group, and is leading a joint initiative of the Canadian Thoracic Society and Canadian Sleep Society to establish guidelines for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea in children in Canada.
