Dr. Marcelo Marcet-Palacios is currently appointed as Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Research
My lab is interested in the structure-function relationships that enable biological systems. Our work on the superstructure of the HIV-1 matrix (MA) shell helped us predict a new model (1, 2) of viral entry facilitating our efforts to improve understanding of the biology of this pathogen.

I also work closely with Dr. Dean Befus and currently co-supervise 2 graduate students. We have co-authored several publications on the biology of a novel biomarker, CABS1. This protein is expressed in several human tissues including testes, salivary glands, and lung epithelium. We believe that CABS1 functions as a systemic pro-hormone with the ability to regulate inflammation in organs such as the lungs. Studies conducted in animal models show promising results on the anti-inflammatory effects of human CABS1.
