Overview

About

Dr. Mia Lang is the Associate Dean, Faculty Development in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.  In this capacity, she assists faculty members with various aspects of their academic careers, including teaching skills, leadership development, and mentorship.  She has also served two years as acting Vice Dean Education in the pandemic during which time she helped develop virtual teaching methods, and recommendations for rural expansion of medical education.

Dr. Lang is a past Program Director for the General Paediatrics Residency Training Program at the University of Alberta and has served in a variety of roles on local and national committees and task forces for undergraduate and post-graduate medical education.   Dr. Lang is a dedicated medical educator, and has been honoured with several teaching awards including in 2016 an international award in teaching innovation by the Association of Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) for her innovative work in teaching and assessing the CanMEDS Health Advocate role, and was inducted into the Canadian Pediatric Society Hall of Fame in 2019 for her work in medical education.

Dr. Lang is a practicing general paediatrician and has worked in that capacity for 20 years.  She has contributed to multiple practice guidelines for the Canadian Pediatric Society.

Prior to medical school (1995-1999) and pediatric training (1999 - 2003) at the University of Alberta, Dr. Lang completed her PhD in Physiology in 1995 from the University of Calgary, and her MSc in Physiology from the University of Ottawa in 1991.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, music and chocolate.
