About
Dr Matthew Berger is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta and is affiliated with the Sydney Medical School and Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute at the University of Sydney. Matthew Berger is also an experienced registered nurse specialising in communicable disease control, sexual health, and infection prevention and control. After completing a Bachelor of Science (Nursing), he pursued multiple postgraduate degrees, Master of Science in Medicine (Infection & Immunity), Master of Philosophy (Medicine) at the University of Sydney, and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at University of New South Wales, before completing a PhD on the safety, usability and acceptability of microarray patches for vaccination in 2025. His expertise and research interests include new vaccine delivery systems such as microarray patches, communicable diseases, infection prevention and control, surveillance, sexual and reproductive health, adolescent health and digital health. Matthew is board certified in infection prevention and control (CIC), a credentialled infection control professional (advanced) (CICP-A) and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. He holds memberships with the Canadian Public Health Association and the Public Health Association of Australia. He has experience collaborating with key stakeholders, including health professionals, schools, industry, and community groups, to design, implement, and communicate research and public health initiatives. He is committed to strengthening communicable disease control, immunisation, vaccination delivery, and sexual health through evidence-based research and practice.
