About

Personal Statement:

I am keenly interested in educating the next generation of nephrologists through active learning sessions where trainees are made comfortable and are encouraged to share ideas and seek research-based answers. While I have a broad clinical nephrology practice, I have a particular interest in apheresis as it plays a role in many medical conditions and treatment approaches.

After graduating from medical school, completing a residency in internal medicine and practicing as an emergency physician in Pakistan, Dr. Uwais Qarni went to the US to further specialize in nephrology. He practiced as an internist and nephrologist in American Samoa and Newfoundland before joining the Department of Medicine’s Division of Nephrology at the University of Alberta in 2001.

Dr. Qarni has served in several leadership positions at the University of Alberta including as chair of the Mortality & Morbidity Committee within the Department of Medicine and as a member of the Mobilizing Energy, Taking Action Council. He is a member of the Northern Alberta Renal Program.
