Overview

About

Sharon is partner at Witten LLP, whose practice emphasizes all aspects of commercial real estate. She advises on all areas of real property transactions, including the purchase, sale and financing of commercial office complexes, retail shopping centres, residential apartment buildings and hotels. She also acts for landlords and tenants on various leasing matters, including single-tenant building leases, build-to-suit leases, ground leases, office leases and retail leases. Sharon is also experienced in land development, subdivision, and strata and mixed use developments.

Prior to being admitted to the Alberta bar in 2009, Sharon earned her B. Comm. with Distinction (2005) and her LL.B. (2008) from the University of Alberta.

B LAW 456 - Legal Issues in Real Estate

Real estate law as it applies to business decisions in real estate. Property rights and land title, legal aspects of real estate transactions, real estate finance, entitlement and land use, and the environment. Transactional real estate includes lease agreements, purchase and sale agreements, agency, mortgages and deeds of trust, partnership agreements, construction contracts, builder's liens and condominium law. The entitlement process includes all aspects of real estate development including land use planning and zoning, infrastructure, acquisition of development permits and building permits, subdivision and the planning process. Relevant environmental law and Indigenous laws are included. Prerequisite: B LAW 301
