Overview

About

Dr. Cecile L. Phan is a Neuromuscular Specialist and Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Neurology at the University of Alberta. She provides expert care for patients with complex acquired and hereditary neuromuscular diseases and has helped build several key clinical programs, including the muscle and nerve biopsy clinic at Kaye Edmonton Clinic, and the joint Neuromuscular Genetics Clinic. She also co-directs the Neuromuscular Multidisciplinary Clinic which serves close to 400 patients with complex hereditary neuromuscular disorders.

Dr. Phan is deeply committed to medical education and serves as Fellowship Program Director for the Neuromuscular Fellowship Program, which now attracts trainees nationally and internationally. She has received multiple awards recognizing her outstanding teaching, mentorship, and support for resident wellness.

In addition to her clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Phan provides leadership within the Department of Medicine as Director of Fellowships and contributes nationally through involvement with the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN), Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (CNSF), and Neuromuscular Disease Network for Canada (NMD4C). Her academic work focuses on improving diagnostic care and access to therapies for patients with rare neuromuscular disorders.


Research

She is currently the Principle Investigator for several clinical trials in FSHD and co-Principle Investigators for clinical trials in ALS, CIDP, and myotonic dystrophy type 1.
