About

I am a PhD student in sociology at the University of Alberta. I received my MPhil and BSSc in sociology from Hong Kong Baptist University. My research interests include children, youth, and family, crime and delinquency, social construction, social control, and critical social theories. My doctoral dissertation will show how social scientists, governments, the mass media, and the social service sector construct the narrative of “Internet addiction” and justify the discipline and punishment of young people's Internet use. My research has been published in Journal of Family Studies, Sexuality & Culture, Critical Criminology, The British Journal of Social Work, and Asian Education and Development Studies. These journals have an impact metric being ranked top 25% or higher (i.e., Q1) in a subject area within Clarivate's Journal Citation Reports or Elsevier's Scopus.
