About
Dr. Stanley Chan is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Clinical Interests include: surgical outcomes in cataract and refractive lens surgery, promoting the efficient use of surgical resources, as well as global ophthalmology and sustainability in ophthalmology.
Research
Advanced surgical teaching methods including non-technical skills; Factors influencing cataract surgery outcomes; Extended Depth of Focus intraocular lenses; Fuchs corneal dystrophy; Refractive stabilization following cataract surgery; Uveitis characteristics and subtypes in Alberta
Teaching
Cataract surgical preceptor and 8-time recipient of the Ophthalmology Surgical Resident Teaching Award.
Advanced surgical teaching and mentorship to improve the following areas: (a) improving routine surgical techniques, (b) learning and developing advanced surgical techniques, (c) maximizing efficiency in and out of the operating room, (d) developing one's surgical “mental game”, (e) streamlining preoperative surgical planning, (f) maintaining work-life balance, and (g) handling the stressors and challenges of our current working environment.
