About

Dr. Compton is the Program Director for the Master of Sciences in Medical Sciences (Dental Hygiene) and the Director, Educational Research & Scholarship Unit in the School of Dentistry.

Dr. Compton's primary research areas include educational research and oral health issues in older adult populations. 

Qualifications

  • PhD: Doctor of Philosophy; University of Alberta (1996-2002) 
  • MA (Ed): Master of Arts in Education; University of Alabama in Birmingham (1982-1983)
  • BSc: Bachelor of Science; University of Alabama in Birmingham (1981-1982)
  • DipDH: Dental Hygiene Diploma; University of Alberta (1978-1980)

Dr. Compton's teaching areas include research methods and critical appraisal of research.

Courses

D HYG 390 - Introduction to Research

Introduces basic principles involved in research design and methodology including introduction to critical analysis of oral health research.


D HYG 490A - Evidence Informed Dental Hygiene Practice

This course advances research concepts from D HYG 390. Emphasis will be on the development of critical thinking abilities, information literacy skills and the use of research to support oral health practice decisions and recommendations.


D HYG 490B - Evidence Informed Dental Hygiene Practice

This course advances research concepts from D HYG 390. Emphasis will be on the development of critical thinking abilities, information literacy skills and the use of research to support oral health practice decisions and recommendations.
