About
Dr. Silverman, MD, MSc., FRCPC is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Department of Pediatrics. He is also the Program Director for the Pediatric Gastroenterology training program. He is extensively involved in medical education with roles in learner assessment, trainee mentorship and curriculum development.
Clinical Interests
His primary clinical interest is in Intestinal Failure, and he is co-lead for the CHildren's Intestinal Rehabilitation Program (CHIRP) at the Stollery Children's Hospital, and also co-chairs CHIRPNet, a network of 4 Canadian intestinal rehabilitation programs.
Teaching
Dr. Silverman's primary academic interests are in the use of technology, social media and alternative approaches such as the flipped classroom in postgraduate medical education. With colleagues from the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN), he is a co-host of Bowel Sounds: the Pediatric GI Podcast, a podcast aimed at providing education and career mentorship. Recent work has focused on adaptations in learner assessment in the context of COVID-19.
