About
Dr. Gourishankar graduated (cum laude) from the University of Alberta Medical School after which she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Following completion of her nephrology fellowship at the University of Alberta, Dr. Gourishankar sucessfully completed a 2 year clinical research fellowship in kidney transplantation and matriculated with her Masters of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard University. She has held a clinical investigator award from the Alberta Heritage Foundation and research grants with the NIH, CIHR, Kidney Foundation and University Hospital foundation. She served as the Assistant Dean of Admissions (2016-2021) and Director of Professionalism and Remediation (2013-2018) for the MD program. She is currently a Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Transplantation Immunology at the University of Alberta and serves as the Medical Director of the Renal Transplant Program, Director of the LIving Donor Kidney Program and the Co-director of the Kidney Transplant Fellowship training program. She has been invited nationally and internationally to give lectures on her research of health outcomes of kidney transplant recipients. She maintains a busy clinical practice in general nephrology and kidney transplantation.
