About
Hi 👋,
I'm Majeed, an incoming Assistant Professor at U of A's Department of Computing Science and a fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), specializing in Human–Computer Interaction. I earned my PhD from the University of Toronto, where my research explored how generative AI is reshaping programming, with a focus on interaction and cognition. I design tools that promote thoughtful engagement with AI, reduce over-reliance, support independent learning, and improve control and validation in human–AI workflows.
My work has been published in top HCI venues, including CHI, UIST, and IUI. My recent research on AI and Computing Education is among the most highly cited in the field. I have also received a Best Paper Award and a Best Late-Breaking Work Award for my work on MakerWear, a construction kit that enables young children to build their own interactive wearables.
Before starting my PhD, I worked as a software engineer, and during grad school, I completed two research internships at Microsoft Research.
