About
I am a medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. I completed my undergraduate medical education at the University of Western Ontario and my postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the University of Alberta.
Research
My primary research interest is in clinical trials in all areas of gastrointestinal oncology.
Teaching
My primary academic interest is medical education. I completed a Masters of Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. My major focus has been postgraduate medical education. I have been the Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education since 2021, with the major focus of my portfolio being accreditation and resident remediation. I was the program director for the Medical Oncology residency training program at the University of Alberta from 2006-2015 and the associate program director from 2001-2006. I was a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Medical Oncology Examination Committee from 2012-2021, and the chair of the committee from 2016-2021. As a member of the RCPSC Medical Oncology Specialty Committee, I was actively involved in the development of the medical oncology competency-based medical education curriculum for the RCPSC Competence by Design (CBD) Project. I have been actively involved in the accreditation process for residency training programs, both as a member of the University of Alberta Internal Review Committee and as a RCPSC Surveyor.
