Megan Skrip, PhD

About

Dr. Megan Skrip is an award-winning science writer helping researchers tell the stories of their work, for broad audiences outside of science and for others in their field. Her work encompasses translating technical jargon into enjoyable prose, polishing could-be-better writing until it shines, and crafting messages about research to meet communication goals. For over eight years, Skrip has advised researchers about scicomm best practices, co-written and edited grant proposals and scientific manuscripts, and written about research in the style of news stories, press releases, features, explainers, and scientist profiles. Her work has helped researchers to secure millions of dollars in grant funding, publish over 20 manuscripts, and garner speaking invitations and media interviews as well as coverage by international media outlets, industry news, and government agencies. In 2024, Skrip became a permanent resident of Canada and launched her freelance science communication business, Skrip SciComm Inc. In 2025, she joined the University of Alberta as the Centre for Smart Transportation's Communications and Technical Writer.
