About

Dr Rashiq was born in the UK and obtained his medical degree from University of Nottingham. Prior to moving to Canada in 1992, he was a House Officer in Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia in the UK and was a medical officer on a mountaineering expedition in southern Chile. He completed Anesthesia training at the University of Alberta in 1995. He was a Fellow in Pain Medicine at the University of Washington’s Multidisciplinary Pain Centre in Seattle in 1997/98. He obtained the degree of Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2002.

He is a Staff Anesthesiologist in Adult General and Neuroanesthesia at the University of Alberta Hospitals and a Staff Physician in its Multidisciplinary Pain Clinic. He co-ordinates the Anesthesiology Department's Resident Mentorship Program and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry's Academic Mentorship Program for undergraduate Medical Students. He has been on 11 short-term clinical service and teaching missions to Ecuador and Guyana.  His interests are in Global Health, Mentorship, the use of opioid analgesics in chronic non-cancer pain and complex psychosocial and functional chronic pain syndromes.

He provides expert opinion to litigants and defendants in the areas of Pain Medicine and Anesthesia and was recognized as an expert in Pain Medicine by the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench in 2008 and 2018.

He is married with three children and cycles to work when the weather is fine.
