About

Personal Statement:
My goal in academic, research and clinical work has been to optimize patient care by creating practice environments that enable pharmacists to practice to full scope - the anticoagulation management service provided a model for the Alberta College of Pharmacy to move forward with Additional Prescriptive Authority, enabling Albertan pharmacists to prescribe Provincially regulated drugs – a role that is the most advanced in the world.

Dr. Tammy Bungard received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Wayne State University in Detroit, after which she pursued a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Alberta. She then completed two specialized traineeships in thrombosis / anticoagulation management in the United States, before returning to the University of Alberta where she joined the Division of Cardiology in 2001.

A committed leader in pharmacy, Dr. Bungard has received many awards throughout her scholastic and professional career for her academic achievements, peer and trainee mentorship and contributions to the field of pharmacy.

Leadership and Collaborations:
Dr. Bungard developed, implemented and directs the Anticoagulation Management Services at the University of Alberta Hospital. As an expert in management of anticoagulants, she has performed research and published in areas related to the clinical management of thrombosis. Nationally, she is the co-chair of the Patient & Families Committee with Thrombosis Canada and has participated on that organization’s annual general meeting.
