About

Since 2013, I'm working as Associate Professor of Neuropathology at the Division of Anatomical Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, University of Alberta.

Following graduation in 1993 from the University of Muenster in Germany, I was trained in Neuropathology at the Charite - University Medicine Berlin, Germany (1995 - 2001). From 2002 - 2008, I worked as neuropathologist at the Charite, as deputy chair with Andreas von Deimling and then as active chair in 2007-2008. From 2008 - 2012, I worked at the Dpt. of Neuropathology and the German Brain Tumor Reference Centre in Bonn, Germany.

My research interests focus on neuro-oncology and neuro-inflammation. I have received grants from the Alberta Cancer Foundation, University Hospital Foundation (Kaye Fund Competition 2018/19), University of Alberta, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft' ('German Research Society'; DFG), and ZNS - Hannelore Kohl Stiftung ('CNS - Hannelore Kohl Foundation'). I published more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
