About
After my Medical and Pediatric training in Israel, I completed a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and earned my PhD in Cellular Microbiology at the University of Toronto. I am a co-principal applicant on the CIHR-CHILD Foundation Canadian Children IBD Network, member of the Dietitians or ECCO (D-ECCO) Committee, on the Executive of the ESPGHAN Porto IBD Group, and Chair of the Porto Research Committee.
Clinical Interests
My clinical expertise is managing children with inflammatory
bowel diseases (IBD; Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis) with specific
interest in diets, such as the Crohn’s disease exclusion diet (CDED). This
interest fits well with my laboratory research focus, detailed above.
Research
The Wine Lab focuses on involvement of intestinal bacteria and nutrition in development of intestinal inflammation, enabling translational bench-to-bedside research. My lab, located in the Katz Building within CEGIIR, has diverse expertise in basic aspects of IBD, especially in children, using patient samples and disease models to investigate the roles of microbes, nutrition, the epithelial lining and barrier function, and inflammation in pathogenesis. The lab is funded by CIHR, The Weston Foundation, and The IMAGINE SPOR Network.
Teaching
I am involved in teaching at different levels, but mostly with trainees in my lab. These include postdocs, PhD and MSc students, and undergraduates. I also teach medical students, residents, and clinical fellows.
