About
Dr. Michael Zhu is an academic Radiation Oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast and thoracic malignancies currently appointed as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He received his Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (with Special Training In Research (STIR) designation) degrees at the University of Alberta before completing a residency in Radiation Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute where he served as Chief Resident. He was selected for a Detweiler Travelling Fellowship Award by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was funded to complete an integrated travelling fellowship specializing in advanced therapeutic techniques. During this time, he developed further expertise in stereotactic radiosurgery and pencil beam scanning proton therapy at Stanford University and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. In addition to his academic and clinical commitments, he sits on the Lung Cancer Canada Medical Advisory Committee and is an executive board member of the Alberta Medical Association Section of Radiation Oncology.

His research interests include advancing practice through clinical trials with secondary interests related to medical education, simulation teaching, and barriers to health access.
