This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).

This part-time position has an end date of March 15, 2025. This is a seasonal position. We are looking for staff who would be interested in working multiple seasons with Golden Bears & Pandas Athletics.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton and South Campus Edmonton.

Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics is the varsity department for the University of Alberta, and falls under the Dean of Students portfolio. Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics is one of Canada’s premier intercollegiate programs. The U of A competes in the Canada West conference, which resides under the U SPORTS national body, and is home to 24 teams and over 475 student-athletes. The U of A competes in the sports of Basketball, Cross-Country, Curling, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, and Wrestling. It is our vision to be recognized locally, regionally, nationally and internationally as a leader in the pursuit and achievement of excellence in sport. Position

We are looking for outgoing individuals to fill positions in our Hockey, Basketball, Football and Volleyball Production Crews for all varsity home games throughout the season (September - March). If you have an interest in sport and want to assist the Athletic Department in providing an awesome webcast + in-game atmosphere for our student athletes and spectators, we want to hear from you.

Production Crew positions include:

  • TriCaster Production Director 
  • Instant Replay Operator 
  • Audio Operator 
  • Camera Operator
  • Video Board Operator

1. TRICASTER PRODUCTION DIRECTOR 

The TriCaster Production Director will switch between multiple cameras, virtual inputs and live virtual sets, while inserting clips, titles and motion graphics during broadcast. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Operate TriCaster on game nights 
  • Set-up the radio play-by-play equipment for pregame and half-time shows to: 
  • Select camera shots 
  • Insert graphics 
  • Insert commercial spots 
  • Select highlights to replay during the game 
  • Coordinate audio feeds 
  • Prepare 10 to 15 minute pre-game show that includes interviews with players and coaches
  • Prepare Half-time show, consisting of highlights and other Golden Bears & Pandas scores
  • Archive and upload game footage 
  • Build graphics during the pre-production time prior to the game 
  • Coordinate with radio announcers to determine what story-lines will be followed
  • Archive game footage and highlights onto the FTP server 
  • Secures equipment post-game 
  • Deliver high resolution highlight package on a portable digital format on game nights 

2. REPLAY OPERATOR - 3Play Software 

The Replay Operator will operate the instant replay decks and recall instant replays as directed by the TriCaster Production Director. Assist in the execution of the event script, as assigned, assuring all event elements and corporate sponsorship obligations are fulfilled while enhancing the overall live sporting event atmosphere. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Organize and maintain replay archive during event 
  • Create melts for playback and archiving purposes 
  • Assist department in maintaining high level of event production 
  • Assist in post game archiving and content organization 

3. CAMERA OPERATOR 

The Audio Operator is responsible for the in-game music and all audio associated with the PA Announcer, videos, and graphics. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Works in collaboration with the TriCaster Production Director and Video Board Operator 
  • Sets up and teardown of Camera, Tripod and its equipment 
  • Prepare pregame film for potential pregame show 
  • Filming Tight and Wide shots for broadcast 
  • Filming fast paced action 
  • Works well with others and following Directors' requests

4. AUDIO OPERATOR 

The Audio Operator is responsible for the in-game music and all audio associated with the PA Announcer, videos, and graphics. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Works in collaboration with the TriCaster Production Director and PA Announcer 
  • Sets up and maintains Sound Director system (In-house music) 
  • Prepare song lists prior to games 
  • Insert, edit, and organize songs 
  • Instrumental in creating a highly entertaining and family fun atmosphere 

5. VIDEO BOARD OPERATOR 

The Video Board Operator will be responsible for what is displayed on the in-house video board. The Operator would switch between live game action, in-house cameras, various graphics (for goals, powerplays, chants, etc.) commercials, videos, etc. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Download graphics from Canada West 
  • Upload Graphics to VMIX 
  • Select camera shots display 
  • Insert graphics 
  • Insert commercial spots 
  • Work in coordination with the camera person and producer on video board visuals being displayed. 

Qualifications

  • Available and committed to work Friday/Saturday nights for particular sport
  • Technically savvy with ability to multitask, cross-train and learn new skills quickly.
  • Strong understanding of live sports television
  • In-depth knowledge of Hockey, Basketball and Volleyball
  • Previous experience on  VMix system would be helpful
  • Basic computer skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Internet Applications
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent relationship builder
  • Must be self motivated, able to work independently, and be a part of a team
  • Able to solve problems in an efficient and effective way
  • Familiarity with Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics teams and events is an asset

Compensation:

  • $20.23/hour + 4% vacation pay + 3.46% stat pay + 1.5% premium pay*

*premium pay for current full-time U of A students only
