Engineering Career Connections (ECC) helps students unlock the possibilities of their degree by delivering innovative, accessible and actionable career exploration and job search programming, resources, tools and opportunities tailored to the engineering profession.

Position 

Reporting to the Engineering Career Connections Manager, the Engineering Career Connections Coordinator has core responsibilities in developing and delivering specialized career education and job search programming, resources and events tailored to the unique needs of engineering students. Programming methods include, but are not limited to, workshops, micro-learning sessions, webinars, and in-class lectures as well as further development of customized resources and tools for the ECC’s Resource Vault.

The role also has responsibilities in planning and executing career exploration and networking events, and numerous marketing and communications projects that increase student awareness of, and engagement with, career and networking opportunities. The marketing and communications responsibilities require excellent content creation (writing, editing and design) and coordination of the ECC’s communications channels (newsletter, Resource Vault, website, events calendars, social media).

This position requires a collaborative, adaptable, diplomatic, and proactive individual who possesses exceptional relationship-building building, attention to detail, and is capable of working with a great deal of autonomy.

Duties 

Career Education Programming, Resources and Events (60%)

  • Creates and delivers actionable, engineering-tailored workshops, in-class lectures, or webinars on career development and job search topics (e.g., resumes, cover letters, interviews, networking, communication, etc.).
  • Develops, designs and creates career education materials, tools, videos, etc. to equip students with essential career exploration and job search skills.
  • Collaborates in planning and executing career exploration/networking events for students (e.g., career panels, industry nights); including panel moderation, recruiting alumni and industry participants (either directly or in collaboration with other stakeholders), advising on and/or handling logistical details (location, registration, catering), etc.

Marketing & Communications: (30%)

  • Contributes to the development of, and executes on, marketing and communications plans to raise U of A engineering students’ awareness and engagement with career education and job search programming, resources and event-specific initiatives.
  • Creates presentations, posters, marketing materials, social media posts, etc. using Canva and other tools that comply with standards and branding guidelines.
  • Handles creation and distribution of quality content via ECC's communication channels (e.g., website, Resource Vault, weekly newsletter, social media) ensuring compliance with University standards and policies.

Program Administration & Operations: (10%)

  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders (faculty, staff, students, career educators, community/industry partners, alumni).
  • Contributes to effective project management and uses tools (ClickUp) to track and manage deliverables, workflow, deadlines, etc.
  • Coordinates and documents meetings, workshops, seminars, and special events (room booking, registration, technical support, agendas).
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The position requires a minimum two (2) year diploma in education, business, communications, social sciences (Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred), along with five (5) years professional experience in career advising, education, communications/marketing, event planning, recruiting/human resources, or program development. Equivalent education and years of experience may be considered.
  • Strong public speaking skills and facilitation experience; comfortable delivering presentations and training, both in-person and virtually, to groups ranging from 15 to 300+ engineering students and/or alumni.
  • Excellent written communication and resource/presentation creation skills across print, digital, and video formats. Must possess keen attention to detail and strong proofreading/editing abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create professional marketing and event promotional assets tailored towards target audience, and use of social media tools to grow engagement and participation.
  • Experience with print, electronic, and web design and platforms, including content management systems.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, strong interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of maintaining strong cross-functional collaboration and productive working relationships.
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High degree of initiative and judgment, capable of working independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritizing competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), virtual platforms (Zoom/Google Meet), and ability to quickly learn new software and leverage AI driven technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with career development (exploration, planning, job search) best practices and resource development.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles, theories and techniques.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating engaging, action-oriented career education workshops, both in-person and virtually.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management with the ability to be reflective, innovative and creative to ensure program design and delivery is highly engaging and effective for engineering students.
  • Experience with communications and event web-based tools, and other platforms such as: Cascade, Groupize, Zoom, Canva, Campaign Monitor, Canvas.
  • Experience with project management and software such as ClickUp.
  • Experience creating educational videos and using video editing tools and YouTube.
  • Familiarity of the engineering profession and Faculty of Engineering.
