Working for the Faculty 

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) is consistently ranked in the top 20 faculties of its type worldwide (QS World University Rankings). It is home to approximately 1400 undergraduate students and 130 graduate students. The Alberta International School of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism of Beijing Sport Univeristy welcomed their first cohort of 63 undergraduate students in 2023. In addition to these undergraduate programs, KSR also offers Masters degrees, a suite of Graduate Certificates, and a world-class PhD program.

Position 

Working closely with the KSR Director-International School and Reporting to the Manager, International and Community Education (ICE), the Administration Coordinator will be responsible for providing administrative support to our Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism (BARST) degree program for students registered at the Alberta International School of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism of Beijing Sport Univeristy located in Hainan, China. They will be responsible for monitoring academic progress and requirement compliance, as well as liaising with leadership at both institutions. The Administrative Coordinator will provide cultural and onboarding training to instructors and staff, as well as provide additional support to the ICE office when necessary.

Duties 

  • Delivery of cultural training and other onboarding for instructors teaching in the International School.
  • Assist with establishing English Language support for students registered at the International School.
  • Provide other administrative support to the Faculty as it relates to International School activities.
  • Maintain a current archive of academic documents, records, and reports.
  • Coordinate travel to the International School for KSR administration, leadership, and instructors.
  • Maintain an up-to-date instructor manual for the International School.
  • Work on policies for the International School.
  • Coordinate with KSR staff regarding course scheduling and instructor evaluation.
  • Travel to the International School may be required.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for students regarding grade appeals and academic standing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin.
  • Facilitation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to advise on challenging student situations.
  • Knowledge of Chinese culture.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both English and Mandarin, verbal and written).
  • Ability to collaborate and engage in shared decision-making within a team.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Committed to the creation of a safe and supportive learning and working environment, including knowledge of and commitment to KSR and UofA equity, diversity, and inclusivity policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated accountability and responsibility for carrying out duties and activities assigned and/or agreed upon.
  • Must be willing to work outside of standard hours on occasion to accommodate time differences between Alberta and Hainan.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Kinesiology, Sport, Recreation, Tourism, or a related area.
  • Knowledge of the BARST (Bachelor of Arts, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism) degree program or similar programs.
  • Experience within both Canadian and Chinese Education systems.
