This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).

This position has an end date of March 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension. The department is open to considering transfers or temporary promotions.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Position 

Reporting to the Clinical Business Analyst, the Finance & Insurance Clerk is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and proactive service to the finance department at the School of Dentistry. Duties consist of day to day financial transaction processing, reporting, file maintenance, clinical accounts receivable including entering incoming insurance payments, contacting appropriate parties to collect outstanding balances as well as providing financial/insurance support as needed.

Duties 

Clinical Finance Responsibilities

  • Monitors the notifications of electronic bank payments, enters payments in axiUm, updates patient accounts, etc.
  • Processes cheque, debit, and credit card payments and completes daily deposits
  • Collects fees and completes insurance and third-party billing forms including coordination of benefits in the event of multiple insurance carriers
  • Processes CDAnet and paper claim submissions
  • Enters adjustments for no cost treatment
  • Prepares the daily deposit of the Department, and ensures all appropriate backup documentation is obtained for audit purposes
  • Contacts patients and insurance companies to ensure prompt payments of aged balance when required
  • Answers inquiries from both patients and insurance companies regarding dental treatment
  • Provides financial/insurance support to the patient services clerks and patients
  • Coordinates and receives documents and enters transaction notes
  • Ensures proper allocation of payments is entered into axiUm and Viewpoint in conjunction with the appropriate treatment and funding source
  • Responsible for ensuring that account receivables are up to date; sending statements, contacting patients for payments, following up with insurance companies for outstanding balances owed.
  • Ability to critically analyze all aspects of the patient record and identify any required changes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary certificate in a related field required
  • 1-2 years of Dental office experience required
  • Experience using an electronic health record software is required
  • Experience with Point of Sale (POS) devices, processing payments and completing deposits

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Financial administration in a post-secondary setting is an asset
  • Ability to critically analyze all aspects of the patient record and identify any required changes
  • Accurate data entry skills; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and diverse work environment that is dynamic and constantly changing
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize activities
  • Proficiency using information technology including MS Office applications and Google Suite
