Working for the Faculty 

Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) is a research program in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. TREC is a pan-Canadian and international program of applied research. It functions in an integrated knowledge translation or partnered model. We have long-standing relationships with stakeholders, end users, policymakers, and our citizen advisory group. We are seeking a mature and experienced project coordinator to manage two projects, a survey project, and a multi-component intervention.

Position 

This position will focus on the coordination of two projects. The first project is aimed to support the develop of more resilient and stable workforce of care home managers. The pre-post intervention with a process evaluation will work with 100 managers across Alberta to teach leadership, communication, and coherent breathing strategies. The second project is a large survey of care aides from across Alberta. In partnership with CLPNA, we will randomly survey care aides on their experiences with trauma and its impact on their mental and physical health. The Project Coordinator will support all aspects of the studies including day-to-day project management, communication with stakeholders, drafting reports, and budget reviews. Assistance with data collection and analysis will be required as needed. 

We are seeking a Project Coordinator based in Edmonton. The position will report to TREC’s Senior Research Coordinator and to our Field Coordinator, working closely with the principal investigator and the leads for each project. This position is front-facing and there will be engagement with care home Managers and staff.

Duties 

  • Monitor, maintain, and update detailed project timelines and deliverables for the region, ensuring targets are achieved.
  • Some travel to Continuing care homes may be required.
  • Understand and maintain study protocols to reflect the requirements of the studies.
  • Maintain a small budget of local resource funds; monitoring the budget, compiling and submitting financial reports to the TREC Management team.
  • Attend training sessions, team meetings, and AGMs (usually held in Edmonton).
  • Ensure that regular communication is maintained at all participating facilities in the region and respond in a timely way to all issues and queries from the facilities.
  • Help develop project materials including documents, questionnaires, packages, etc.
  • Help ensure that project data is collected in a timely manner.
  • Obtain appropriate permissions for the survey scale.
  • Ensure that quality control procedures are adhered to, and the highest quality data is collected.
  • Problem-solving on the fly and escalating issues as appropriate. Must be able to troubleshoot any immediate issues arising from collecting data.
  • Assist with recruitment, data collection, and data management for the projects.
  • Work collectively with members of the TREC team to develop and deliver multi-media feedback to managers and care aides.
  • Complete reports for the funder and separate narrative reports for key stakeholders.
  • Support presentations, e.g., PowerPoint, and all arrangements, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Undergraduate degree in a health or social sciences discipline; a graduate degree in health or highly related social science discipline is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related project coordination experience in human service (e.g., health, social service).
  • Experience in a health setting is a requirement strong preference will be given to applicants with continuing care (e.g., nursing home) experience.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and constructively in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-directed and highly organized.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact constructively with members of the public and with health professionals is essential.
  • The ability to work within a complex environment with multiple stakeholder relationships and projects is essential.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
  • Must have computer proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a residential long-term care setting is a definite asset.
