Position 

Reporting to the Manager of Core Technology Services, the enterprise developer is an experienced technical resource responsible for the technical analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of the University of Alberta Enterprise Applications solutions, tools and technology. The enterprise developer supports the Manager in the enhancement, implementation and support of Oracle Cloud Services (Planning & Budgeting, Recruiting), PeopleSoft 9.2 Applications (Campus Solutions, Human Capital Management, Financials) and integration with other internal/external enterprise systems.

The role performs solution design & programming tasks, participates in development & integration initiatives, and is recognized as a technical resource within the service delivery team. The role actively participates in the change process providing development support in collaboration with business services staff, Enterprise Applications staff, other Information Services & Technology staff, external service providers and new development services vendors.

The enterprise developer ensures that delivered solutions are technically documented for operations and maintenance purposes; will participate in application enhancement, feature enablement, upgrades or new implementation projects and operational support; and will support the technical assets entrusted to them. To perform this role, the enterprise developer requires skills including but not limited to analytical thinking, design thinking, systems thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and foundational technical expertise.

Duties 

  • Facilitates and participates in the assessment and evaluation of business processes and requirements into technical design and solutions.
  • Performs technical changes from project, enhancement and operational requests through the development lifecycle from technical analysis & design to development & testing and implementation & support.
  • Configures, develops and modifies applications, components, integrations, reports and bolt-on solutions using a variety of programming languages in a maintainable, efficient, reusable and reliable manner.
  • Adheres to application, data and integration development methodologies and standards while ensuring the best possible performance and quality.
  • Supports production transition including post-implementation follow-up to ensure the new or modified system changes performs according to solution design specifications.
  • Provides product, technology and technical expertise in the delivery of maintenance, upgrades and new development projects.
  • Provides technical support to functional staff, external resources, business areas and university departments as it pertains to technical capabilities and use of enterprise applications in collaboration with senior enterprise developers.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree is preferable. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of demonstrated technical experience in configuring, developing, integrating, implementing and supporting large-scale and complex enterprise-level technologies such as Oracle PeopleSoft or equivalent. 
  • Technical experience with multiple programming languages and concepts.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills; accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong technical qualifications in implementing and/or supporting enterprise resource planning systems and/or student information systems are preferred.
  • Working knowledge, experience and understanding of applications and technologies that include, but are not limited to:
    • Enterprise-level Business Applications in Oracle PeopleSoft Applications Release 9.2 and Oracle Cloud Services is an asset.
    • Oracle PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58 (or higher) and associated developer tools and technology including PeopleCode, Application Engine, SQR, Messaging, Integration Broker, Web Services and Security Administration is an asset. 
    • Structured Query Language (SQL) syntax for relational database management.
    • Experience with multiple programming languages such as C# and PHP is an asset.
  • Demonstrated systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Understands the implications of change to others across functional disciplines.
  • Experienced as a project team member and in the use of project & process management methodologies in enhancing and implementing enterprise solutions.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting, implementing or upgrading enterprise-level applications.
