Working for the Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities

The Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities (ACSRC) at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus has, since its founding in 2009, assisted rural communities in meeting diverse challenges across many areas of public policy through fostering constructive dialogue, promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative research, and developing partnerships.

The Centre's mission is to link the research, outreach and educational capacity of the University of Alberta with students, researchers, rural communities, rural community organizations and policy makers at multiple levels across the province, nationally, and internationally in order to support the improved sustainability of rural communities and populations.

Position 

Reporting to the Director of the Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities (ACSRC), the ACSRC Coordinator is responsible for administering ACSRC activities, creating and implementing project plans, event coordination, communications and community outreach, fostering and maintaining successful and collaborative internal and external partnerships, and responding to the objectives and strategic priorities of the ACSRC.

Duties 

  • Provides administrative support for the Director and activities of the ACSRC
  • Works with the Director to coordinate projects and events, including booking venues and catering, preparing funding and sponsorship requests, arranging travel and accommodation, setting up and monitoring event registrations, and all other related coordination duties
  • Participates in communications planning and related initiatives for the ACSRC including newsletter drafting, social media strategy, ACSRC website updates, annual reporting, and creation of marketing collateral
  • Manages and tracks project/event expenses and revenues and supports the reporting requirements of the Centre and the Director
  • Identifies and carries out additional special initiatives as requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong computer proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office applications and Google Apps
  • Excellent communications and highly refined people skills with a proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential materials
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and keep track of multiple and competing priorities and deadlines
  • Superior accuracy and attention to detail
  • Communications experience including the ability to think and write in a creative manner
  • Strong project and event coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proficiency with University of Alberta policies and procedures is preferred
  • Experience with Peoplesoft systems (Finance, Expense, HCM, Researcher Home Page and eTrac) considered an asset
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (in particular InDesign and Illustrator) considered an asset
  • Experience writing sponsorship proposals an asset
