This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $76,135 to $104,709. This position has an approximate appointment of 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Working for the Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery has 15 divisions and offers programs in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies.  The department also includes many other research groups who contribute to cutting edge advancement in areas such as transplantation, joint preservation and regeneration and surgical simulation technology.  Founded in 1922, the department has been a leader in its field, striving to achieve a balance between technology and the human element that defines the art of surgery.  The overarching mission of the department is to restore health through surgical intervention, and to remember that patient dignity and comfort are integral to overall health.  Further information on the department can be found at www.ualberta/ca/surgery.

Position 

This is an exciting opportunity to be a foundational part of an emerging research centre; the Alberta Centre for Urological Research and Excellence (ACURE). ACUREs mission is to improve the health and quality of life of all urology patients through research, innovation and clinical excellence. The Operations Director (OD) will provide operational, strategic and financial oversight as well as assistance in scientific coordination of ACURE. The Operations Director's primary responsibility will be to ensure optimal organizational function by providing effective co-leadership of ACUREs operational, scientific and financial goals. The position has an end date of approximately two years from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension.

Duties 

  • Coordinate and manage the workings of programs and partnerships within ACURE.
  • Hire and manage staff to support ACURE as the centre grows.
  • Draft and proofread documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), correspondence, procedure manuals, reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Organize and maintain information systems, both electronic (eg REDCap, OnCore, ARISE, ConnectCare), and hard copy.
  • Prepare, implement, administer, and control operational budgets.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies, and practices.
  • Effectively and routinely, communicate progress and successes in ACURE research success to stakeholders and the community.
  • Develop a social media presence for ACURE.
  • Organize the research mission of ACURE with the goal of becoming a recognized leader in urological research regionally, nationally and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Science, Business or a related field.
  • 10-years' experience in independent senior administration, project, or research coordination.
  • Management experience in coaching, developing, maintaining relations, leading and motivating teams.
  • Relevant experience managing programs, including budgets, financial plans, milestones and metrics.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience with all types of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web content management systems experience
  • Strength in planning and implementing progressive strategies.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when necessary in order to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • High degree of enthusiasm with a strong ability to work independently and lead others.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with scientific writing an asset.
  • Project management experience would be preferred.
  • Proficiency with Connect Care electronic medical records an asset.
