Position 

The Business Analyst is a key member of the Enrolment Systems & Service Innovation team, responsible for proactively meeting and exceeding the diverse needs of the University. The Business Analyst is a catalyst for new growth by leading mid to large-scale initiatives, business process re-engineering, and continual service improvement efforts for the University. 

As a service-focused leader, the Business Analyst works collaboratively with campus partners to provide advice, guidance, and leadership in support of the University's strategic plan. The Business Analyst has the ability to influence teams and stakeholders toward a unified direction to identify opportunities to improve and innovate student services and the student experience. In all facets of this role, the Business Analyst endeavors to integrate and advance the University’s commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity.

Duties 

  • Leads medium to large-scale multi-disciplinary initiatives.
  • Analyzes business requirements originating from the University of Alberta’s strategy, business plans, and internal/external clients and translates those requirements into business processes.
  • Researches and analyzes system utilization; determines, proposes, and implements improvements.
  • Meets with stakeholders to review and document business requirements and provides options, advice or recommendations regarding business process change, system functionality or customizations/fixes required.
  • Works closely with internal and external service providers/teams to document and translate business requirements into solutions and ensures business requirements are built to stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Provides a communication link between the business areas and leadership.
  • Participates in the technical strategy and analysis stages to resolve complex issues.
  • Provides recommendations to enhance established processes and procedures.
  • Participates in defining the initial project scope and supports the different phases of project implementation.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames.
  • Ensures updates and changes to business processes are reflected in training programs and material.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computing Science or Management Information Systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressing increasing responsibility in either a systems analyst or business analyst role.
  • Certification in a Business Analysis program certified by the International Institute of Business Analysts.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement.
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies, and tools. Proven organizational change management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex findings to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build relationships, communicate, influence, advocate, and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills for leading effective teams, and are able to put forth ideas (written, verbal, and presentations) confidently to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary environment is an asset.
